While "consume less, move more" is good advice, it doesn't work when your hormones are sabotaging your efforts. Losing weight during menopause is difficult because during perimenopause and menopause, our estrogen and progesterone levels decrease our muscle mass, which slows down our metabolic rate and results in fewer calories burned.
